Name: Rhodonite (Mn+2,Fe+2,Mg,Ca)SiO3
Type: Mineral
Class: Silicate
Subclass: Inosilicate
Particle Size: Fine
Sample No.: rhodon_1
Owner: JHU
Wavelength Range: TIR
Origin: Franklin, New Jersey via the Smithsonian (sample no. NMNHC6148)
Collection Date: N/A
Description: The hand sample was composed of two fragments, each about 2 cm x 2 cm x 1 cm. Pink rhodonite crystals were removed from host rock by sawing to free pure rhodonite. Under the petrographic microscope, many of the grains show a small degree of unidentified alteration, likely accounting for the strong hydroxyl bands near 2.7 micrometers. Particle size was Less than 2 Micrometers. (chain silicates); (Pyroxenoid Group) Original ASTER Spectral Library name was jhu.nicolet.mineral.silicate.inosilicate.powder.rhodon1.spectrum.txt
Mineral: Rhodonite (Mn+2,Fe+2,Mg,Ca)SiO3

Sample No.: rhodon.1

XRD Analysis: Pure rhodonite.

Hydoxyl may account in part for the low total for microprobe
analysis, but rhodonite from Franklin also tends to contain zinc,
which was not analyzed.

Chemistry: Microprobe analysis showed that the sample was
homogeneous between and within grains, with typical rhodonite
composition. Average of six analyses:

SiO2	46.30
Al2O3	0.05
FeO	0.50
MgO	0.41
CaO	8.27
K2O	0.04
Na2O	0.28
TiO2	0.07
