Name: Dolomite CaMg(CO3)2
Type: Mineral
Class: Carbonate
Subclass: None
Particle Size: Coarse
Sample No.: dolomite_1
Owner: JHU
Wavelength Range: TIR
Origin: Sample from Oberdorf, Styria, Austria via the Smithsonian(sample no. NMNH R12596).
Collection Date: N/A
Description: The sample was a single white crystal, 3 cm x 2 cm x 2 cm and 29 g, showing good cleavage. No impurities or alteration were visible in hand sample. Under the microscope it appears very pure and unaltered.Particle size was 74-250 Micrometers. Original ASTER Spectral Library name was jhu.nicolet.mineral.carbonate.none.coarse.dolomi1.spectrum.txt
Mineral: Dolomite CaMg(CO3)2

Sample No.: dolomite.1

XRD Analysis: XRD shows small peaks at 9.4 and 3.11 angstroms,
indicating the presence of a very small amount of talc (not seen in IR
spectrum).

Chemistry: Microprobe analysis of 6 grains showed homogeneous
grain composition, a Ca/Mg ratio of 53.47/46.50, and only a trace of
iron. The analysis technique was not appropriate for CO3, but the
cation abundances indicate a good dolomite.
